ROC Fundamentals Practice Exam

The first equalizer in the forward signal path of a line extender is indeed positioned where the coaxial cable's frequency-dependent attenuation is corrected. This is crucial for maintaining signal quality and integrity over distance.

As signals travel through coaxial cables, they experience varying levels of attenuation at different frequencies, which can result in a loss of clarity in the transmitted data. To counteract this, equalizers are implemented to adjust the amplitude of the frequency components of the signal appropriately, ensuring that higher frequencies, which tend to attenuate more than lower frequencies, are boosted. By placing the equalizer at this point in the signal path, the system can effectively restore the balance of the signal's frequency components before further processing or amplification occurs.

This strategic placement is essential for optimizing the performance of the line extender, as it helps to preserve the desired signal characteristics and improve overall transmission quality. If the equalizer were placed at a different point, such as immediately after the line input or at the output port, it would not effectively address the specific needs created by the coaxial cable's attenuation.
